The Deaf

extendedly Garage-beat band The Deaf from The Hague is back with a vengeance with a new album and tour! Three years after releasing their debut album “Toot, Whistle, Plunk, Boom!” they are ready to present their eponymous second album “The Deaf”.

Halle (Saale) In 2007, Spike van Zoest, Kit Carrera and Miss Fuzz decided to dig up the old Hague Beat sound and give it new life by drenching it with an overdose of Garage, Punk and Rock & Roll. It’s been a whirlwind from the first show onwards, with a club tour and a range of festivals in its wake. When organist Midnight Mau joined the fold The Deaf was complete and their debut album “Toot, Whistle, Plunk, Boom!” was released shortly afterwards on their own label Speed Beat Records.

Sofrino The Deaf left their distinctive mark on the Dutch music scene. They conquered festivals such as Lowlands, Parkpop, Zwarte Cross and Paaspop with their down-and-dirty live performances and powerful songs, and they also won over the international stages of SXSW (where they performed two years in a row), Germany (on the Reeperbahn festival, among others), Russia and Italy. Blondie’s Clem Burke, after witnessing their SXSW show in 2010, praised them as an “Awesome band! He’s a combination of Pelle Almqvist, Wilco Johnson and Pete Townsend.. All rolled into one.”

Nanto-shi In between the club- and festival tours Spike, Mau, Kit and Miss Fuzz worked on fresh material. New ideas were infused with old influences, tested live and given a final overhaul before being recorded onto the analog tapes of the Electric Monkey Studio in Amsterdam. Together with sound soldiers Tijmen van Wageningen (The Womb) and Kasper Frenkel (Electric Monkey) the band produced and recorded the new album in a few long days and even longer nights in September 2014. Recorded and mixed on analog tapes, raw as ever, with a great deal of attention for songs & sound.

It’s an experience. It’s loud! It’s dirty! It’s THE DEAF!
